Kings Park Central School District

Excellence in Education

Home Schooling

The Kings Park Central School District will attempt to cooperate with parents who wish to provide home schooling for their children realizing that the child who is educated at home should receive an education in a manner consistent with an educational plan and, at least, substantially equivalent to that given to students of like age and attainments in the local public schools. The required subjects should be taught in a competent, systematic, and sequential manner, specifically in relation to the required courses as enumerated in the Commissioner’s Regulation Section 100.10.

Kings Park residents who wish to home school must submit a letter of intent to homeschool, an Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), annual evaluations and quarterly reports. A suggested IHIP can be found below under Related Files.

All forms should be submitted to:
Kings Park Central School District
Office of Pupil Personnel Services
180 Lawrence Road, Rm. 208
Kings Park, NY 11754

Home schooling parents or students may request a determination of substantial equivalency between the homeschool and public high school program for the purpose of documenting substantial equivalency in the college application process. Information on Kings Park CSD’s procedures in response to requests for substantial equivalency determination are listed below under Related Files.
