This past Monday evening (February 5, 2018), the district hosted a “Leadership Summit” for the purpose of discussing various issues that impact student mental health. In attendance at this Leadership Summit were 32 various adult and student leaders from the school district and community. We discussed how we all might work together to address the increasingly complex issues that are impacting our students and their families. The list of complex issues that bubbled up from our conversations included:
• Effects of social media addiction
• Depression and anxiety
• Cyberbullying and other online problematic behaviors
• Social isolation and need to increase and improve in-person communications
• Increased student use of personal vaporizers
• Opioid epidemic
• Financial awareness and difficulties
• Greater need for volunteers and positive role models/mentors
• Need to continue to advocate for additional resources
Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 13, 2018. We will be holding a community event that will focus on mental health at KPHS at 7pm. More information on this event will follow.
